South Boston Obituaries & Tributes
With deep sorrow and heartfelt love, the family of Cora Lee Jones shares the news of her passing on January 27, 2026, at the age of 83.
Cora, the devoted daughter of Lilly Jones, was born on October 31, 1942, in Montgomery, Alabama, where she and her brother grew up surrounded by aunts, uncles, cousins, and their grandparents, Louise and Wash Lacy. In 1970, Cora moved to Boston to be with her beloved, late brother, Jimmy Jones, and her treasured, late sister-in-law, Virginia Jones. Together, they raised their families and built their community. Cora created a warm home, filled with southern hospitality and the sounds of Motown.
Cora was the cherished mother to Walter L. Jones and his wife Molly of Squantum, Massachusetts, and Untwon D. Jones of Boston. She was a loving and cherished nana to Ava M. and Calla G. Jones, both of Squantum. She was an adored auntie to Jimmy Jones Jr., Jennifer Jones, Anthony Jones, and Denise Jones, all of Boston. She will be deeply missed by her circle of loving grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, dear friends and all her in-laws.
Cora was a member of the Women's Educational Industrial Union (WEIU). She was dedicated to the care of her clients, even after retiring. Knowing the value of good friends and neighbors, she naturally helped anyone within her large community.
